With the upcoming departures of both Chamakh and Gervinho for the African Nations Cup, many Arsenal fans were hoping the Frenchman would recruit a striker to be able to cover both talisman Van Persie and out-wide if needed.
The Frenchman said on the situation:
At the moment, I do nothing in January. I have a big squad, but if you knock at my door and say ‘I have a fantastic player for you’, I will not turn it down.
If we have no injuries, we should get away with it because we have Oxlade-Chamberlain, who can play there, Park, Arshavin and Van Persie. So we still have offensive players, but we could be a bit short if we have an injury.
With rumours circling around Lukas Podolski, I think the German would be a perfect acquisition following the inability of our back-up players to perform in the absence of our regular first-team players. But seeing Wenger’s statements around Arsenal’s large squad, it is probably more likely you will see players offloaded before seeing new signings.
