Speaking ahead of the Capital One Cup encounter against Sheffield Wednesday, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger expressed hope that youngster Joel Campbell would shine for the Gunners tonight (via Arsenal.com). The Costa Rica forward has been a part of the Arsenal squad for quite a while, but his starting opportunities have been few and far between, and he has failed to impress even then.
Tonight’s game against the Owls could very well be the last opportunity the player gets to impress Wenger, or else he could be offloaded in the upcoming transfer window. There is no point keeping a player at the club who never plays, and the talented youngster needs to make every minute count tonight if he wants to stay at the Emirates. Wenger however, still remained positive about Campbell’s chances, saying, “I like Joel Campbell very much for two reasons. One is that he has outstanding individual quality, but he is also a team player. He works very hard for the team.
“I’m convinced he will get a chance here and that he will take it. He has another opportunity against Sheffield Wednesday and I’m hopeful that he will show that he has the quality to play for Arsenal.
“When you get the chance, you have to be ready. To be ready, you have to prepare. I must say that Joel Campbell and Calum Chambers are two players who do absolutely everything right.
“They are prepared, the preparation they have created will give them the confidence against Sheffield Wednesday and I’m confident they will play well.”
Even if Campbell does extremely well tonight, it is unlikely that he will break into the first team squad. However, it would definitely increase the duration of his Arsenal career, at least a little bit. The player himself was cautiously confident, and revealed that Arsenal would have to respect their opponents if we wanted to win tonight (via Arsenal.com).

He said, “We know what teams from the Championship are capable of. All teams want to win this tournament it’s an important tournament, especially for teams from the second division playing against a Premier League club.
“They’re going to be extra-motivated to get the win – you have to respect every team you play. If we approach the match with respect, we’ll have a good chance of winning.”
With the form that we are in, we will definitely be firm favourites heading into the game, despite Wenger’s decision to rotate the first team significantly. A win today will only help boost morale even further ahead of a couple of much trickier games next week.
