Recent reports have suggested Arsene Wenger has been offered a bumper new contract at Arsenal, but the manager himself has rubbished the rumours (via The Sun).
The stories doing the rounds suggest that Wenger has been offered a new two year deal to remain at the club, extending his contract beyond next season when it’s set to end. Wenger claims the stories are completely false however, and insists that while he’s committed to the club, the rumours of a new contract are rubbish.
“That is completely wrong,” he said.
“I don’t know where it comes from. You can treat that as an invention.
“It is absolutely false. They could have checked with the club and it would have been denied.

“I think about the next game. I have full commitment for as long as I am under contract.
“The focus is to respect my contract. I have extended my contract at a period where it was vital for the club.
“I will see where I am personally and where the club stands [when my contract ends].”
A huge number of Arsenal fans will be thrilled by Wenger’s admission, as large sections of the fanbase have been calling for his head for quite some time. Many would prefer to see him leave the club at the end of this season, but it does seem like the 66-year-old is going to see out his contract and leave at the end of the 2016/17 campaign.
Wenger’s comments also suggest that his repeated decisions to extend his contract were not entirely down to his desires, but also due to the needs of the club and the board at the time. While many fans are calling for a change of manager, they may not understand that large parts of the problem at Arsenal are down to the board. Wenger’s philosophy has been called into question a lot recently, but it’s clearly a philosophy that agrees with the board and the direction they want to take the club in.
Arsenal transfer news
Hopefully the reports of a new contract really are complete nonsense, as while we at All Arsenal have great love and respect for Wenger, a contract extension at this point would be madness.
