Arsenal may have gained an advantage ahead of the Community Shield clash against Chelsea on Sunday after Diego Costa and Gary Cahill picked up knocks against Barcelona in a pre-season friendly, the Daily Mail reports.
Costa limped off with another hamstring issue while Cahill suffered a suspected broken nose, as the Daily Mail suggests, and the two must now be rated as highly doubtful ahead of the weekend’s clash.
Despite the severity of the injuries, Jose Mourinho is adamant that both could still feature at Wembley which shows that he certainly isn’t preparing for this game as if it’s a friendly.

“Cahill has a chance of a broken nose, maybe yes, maybe no,” Mourinho was quoted as saying in the publication.
“If he’s not perfect, he goes tomorrow to make a mask to be ready to play on Sunday.

“Diego felt a little thing in his hamstring. We believe just a feeling, no more than that, but we have to wait.”
Cahil and Costa are key men in Chelsea’s spine and were they to miss the game, then we could realistically be deemed as favourites ahead of the season’s curtain-raiser.
The psychological significance placed on Sunday’s encounter is huge considering that we’re to defeat a Chelsea side managed by Jose Mourinho which must be playing on the player’s minds.
As much as Wenger tries to deny it, another defeat could be a damaging blow to the confidence of the side ahead of the new season.
