The agent of Lucas Torreira has revealed that the midfielder almost stayed in Italy instead of joining the Gunners this summer (via Calcio Mercato).
Transfers can often be more about timing than anything else and it seems as if that was the case for one deal the Gunners made this summer.
Ask almost any Arsenal fan and they will agree that Lucas Torreira was probably one of, if not the best acquisition the club made this summer.
However, according to the player’s agent, the deal almost failed to happen after a reported interest from Serie A side Napoli.
“Napoli? It’s really too bad. Ancelotti wasn’t in place yet when the talks were ongoing between the involved parties,” the player’s agent told Italian radio.
“He could’ve been a great mentor and coach for Lucas but as my client told me, talks were too advanced with Arsenal at that point in time. If his move to Arsenal would’ve collapsed then a move to Napoli would’ve been perfect for him.

“In the end, the Gunners satisfied our demands and they even were willing to pay 5.
“EPL? He is adapting well to the league and he is happy to be here with Arsenal.”
It’s good that Arsenal beat clubs like Napoli to the signature of Lucas Torreira. The Uruguayan midfielder has all the attributes to become an important part of the Gunners’ midfield for many years to come.
