Alexis Sanchez has been a revelation since joining from Barcelona last summer, and is looking like one of our best signings in years. The Chilean is looking to bring compatriot Arturo Vidal to the club this summer, and has apparently “convinced” the Juventus star to trade Serie A for the Premier League, according to The Independent.
The report suggests we are planning a £21m for the midfielder, who is contemplating an exit from Italy this summer despite winning Serie A and reaching the Champions League final. Juventus have already secured the signings of Roberto Pereyra (via Juventus.com) and Sami Khedira (via the BBC), meaning they have plenty of midfield options. This could pave the way for Vidal’s exit, and the Serie A champions may well be planning for life without the 28-year-old already.
The Independent claim Alexis is keen to have his international teammate playing alongside him at Arsenal, and is doing everything he can to “convince” him that the Emirates is where he belongs.
Vidal would be an excellent signing, but is arguably not what we need at the moment. He wouldn’t offer us much that the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere don’t already bring to the table, and we may struggle to fit all our stars into the team at the same time.
He isn’t a dedicated defensive midfielder, which is what we really need at the moment. Francis Coquelin has been phenomenal since his emergence, but if he were to suffer a nasty injury, Vidal is not the type of player who could take the mantle.
