Alexis Sanchez was unquestionably superb this season, but was he our best player? Arsene Wenger doesn’t seem to think so, as the Frenchman claims Santi Cazorla was our standout performer, according to the official Arsenal website.

The Spaniard was excellent throughout the campaign, and was arguably our most consistent player. He was particularly solid during a difficult post Christmas period, and was a massive part of our successful 2015.
Arsene Wenger heaped praise on the 30-year-old, highlighting his ability to improve those around him in particular.
“Santi Cazorla played over 50 games and from the start to the finish he was absolutely top,” Wenger said.
“Maybe with the quality and the consistency included from start to finish, it’s Cazorla [who has stood out the most].

“He had a few games where he was unplayable. I do not look too much at his individual brilliance.
“He makes the others around him good and that’s an outstanding quality for a midfielder.”
Cazorla has thrived in a new deep lying role, and has looked fantastic as part of a midfield trio with Mesut Özil and Francis Coquelin.
He really announced himself in our victory over Manchester City, in which he dominated the game and pulled the strings from midfield. The former Malaga man has shown surprising defensive quality, and his tenacity combined with his almost inhuman ability to retain possession under pressure makes him perfectly suited to his new role.
What do you think Gooners? Is Arsene Wenger right, or has Alexis Sanchez been our standout player this season?
