It seemed very unlikely from the start, but Real Madrid playmaker Mesut Ozil has put an end to speculation by stating his desire to continue to fight for his place with the La Liga outfit.
The Gunners have been reportedly after the German international as well as his team mates Angel Di Maria and Karim Benzema as they seek to bolster their squad with proven, star talent. Di Maria has been ruled out as he has too vowed to fight for his place despite the imminent arrival of Gareth Bale, and now Ozil has followed his lead.
The 24-year-old told reporters according to MARCA at a commercial event in the Bernabeu club shop on Wednesday:
I feel really good at Madrid. I have a contract here until 2016. I feel very good here and get on really well with my team-mates. I want success here. There has been a lot written in the media, talk of some other options, but I have a contract and I am staying with Real Madrid.
I feel very good, I have the confidence of the coach. There is a series of objectives that we want to achieve, in which each one will have a role to play. That is one of the reasons why I want to stay. We are very happy, we have won our two games, we have taken six points. It is true that we need to play better, but there is a long way to go.
Arsenal were more likely in for Di Maria who will mainly feel the effect of Bale’s acquisition. Ozil seemed a real long shot and would have been a dream signing. But regardless not only is he not leaving the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, he is not the type of signing we need.
But with that said, any type of signing would be a boost right now. The Gunners need to bolster their squad more than ever, Podolski has been ruled out for three weeks with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain out for a few months too, while the departures of Andrei Arshavin and Gervinho have left the wings really thin on options.

Unfortunately the Gunners will have to look elsewhere then at Real Madrid for transfer targets as they have done almost all summer.
Arsenal need to test the waters with some players. Go to Chelsea with a sizable £25m fee for Juan Mata and see how they react, go to Dortmund with a £30m+ package for Lewandowski (a bit of a long shot) and see what they do. Options are limited and they have to go for some top talent otherwise it will not be looking good for the season.
