For perhaps the first time ever, Michael Owen has not been totally biased towards Arsenal in his predictions. The BT Pundit predicted all the Boxing Day scores in his Bet Victor blog, and surprisingly backed Arsenal to beat a struggling Southampton side.
This seems like the obvious choice to any normal football fan, but the fact that Owen is actually in agreement with the majority of sane fans has left us in shock.
He actually goes as far as to say we have a “big chance” of landing the Premier League come the end of the season, and has backed us to have too much quality for a Southampton side on a poor run of results.
“Saints, after an excellent opening 20 minutes, were no match for Spurs at St Mary’s last weekend and Arsenal, on the crest of a wave after their win against City earlier in the week, are taken to land the North London double,” he wrote.
“This really is the Gunners’ big chance of landing the Premier League title and, with home games against Bournemouth and Newcastle to come over the Xmas period, they should have too much for a Saints’ side whose big players are all below par at present.”
As we said before, this isn’t some crazy prediction, and this is likely to be the same prediction many other fans and pundits will be making.

The fact that the former Manchester United striker has repeatedly shown a real anti-Arsenal sentiment makes it somewhat shocking though, with the pundit showing a particular bias against Mesut Özil.
Owen himself has spoken about the “anti-Arsenal garbage”, although naturally insists there is no basis for it.
All this anti-Arsenal garbage stems from an honest opinion I gave in a blog sometime ago. See my exact words here: pic.twitter.com/U26EWbmfUt

It’s plain for everyone to see though, as not only does he constantly criticise Özil by spouting facts that are just plain wrong, but every season he insists Arsenal are not a top four team and claims this will be the year we fail to qualify for the Champions League (via The Telegraph).
21 – No player has more assists in the Premier League than Mesut Özil (21) since his debut in September 2013. Maligned.

As we’ve already seen, one of Owen’s biggest criticisms of the German playmaker is that he’s too inconsistent. Yet not only is Özil unmatched in assists in the Premier League since his debut, but has also racked up more assists than any player in Europe since 2008.
Owen is clearly delusional, but at least for once he’s got things right with his Boxing Day predictions. We should unquestionably get all three points against the Saints, especially given our excellent run of form and their conversely shocking recent displays.
Arsenal transfer news
Hopefully Owen is correct for once, and we not only get the win against Ronald Koeman’s side, but see Leicester drop points and allow us to move top of the table.
