Arsenal v Tottenham
Kick off: January, 2014 5:15 PM BST
A North London Derby is always a momentous occasion, and one that is savoured by real football fans. Always rife with controversy, today’s game was likely to be no different. Explosive characters like Adebayor and Wilshere always likely to get stuck in and provide talking points.
There were a few changes for Arsenal, while still putting out a strong team. Fabianski in goal, with Vermaelen and Monreal coming in in front of him. Gnabry and Rosicky starting out wide, and Theo Walcott leading the line.

The game was extremely lively right from kick off, both teams looking dangerous on the counter, the midfield looking like it was going to be the main action area. The youngster Gnabry was looking really up for the game, getting into space to receive the ball, taking players on and making good runs.
Arsenal’s early chances were coming from Walcott and Gnabry. Serge making a good run to the byline before cutting it back to Theo. The ball was unfortunately just behind the Englishman and his shot was scuffed. Gnabry set up Walcott again moments later for a shot from distance, and it was a good one too. Lloris was just able to tip it around the post for a corner, Arsenal definitely looking dominant.
Walcott was causing problems for the Spurs defence, Lloris having to make several good saves. But it was Santi Cazorla that broke the dead lock. Gnabry picked the ball up and drove across the edge of the box, Walcott’s run dragging the defenders out of position. Santi came steaming in from the left, and Gnabry poked a perfectly weighted ball into his path. The Spaniard lashed a left footed shot first time across goal, beating Lloris and crashing into the back of the net. 1-0 Arsenal.
There was some controversy between Wilshere and Dembele, a few words between the two and Dembele with a slight headbut on the Englishman. Just a stern talking to from the referee.
Spurs’ best chance of the half was when a ball broke kindly for Eriksen off of a Koscielny challenge. Fabianski stood up to it well though and pushed it round the post for a corner.
Arsenal went into the break 1-0 up and looking fantastic for their lead. The game is anything but over though.
Sagna Vermaelen(c) Koscielny Monreal
