Another disappointing start of the season for the Gunners. Here are player ratings for Arsenal players that participated today.
Wojciech Szczesny | 4.5: Saved Benteke’s first penalty and Westwood’s long shot but did not provide safety for his team-mates in defence.

Bacary Sagna | 5.5: Hadn’t offered too much before he suffered a fall. The fact he was forced to play left full-back after Gibbs’ injury didn’t help either.
Per Mertesacker | 6.0: Too soft but made a few successful interventions.
Laurent Koscielny | 5.5: Didn’t deserve his first yellow card (the penalty) after a sublime, perfect tackle in the box and was sent off not long after. The biggest victim of referees’ incompetence today.
Kieran Gibbs | 6.0: Earned a deep cut on his head. His injury means trouble for Wenger as Monreal and Vermaelen are out as well.
Aaron Ramsey | 5.0: Didn’t provide what was expected from him after Arteta was ruled out due to injury.
Jack Wilshere | 5.5: Made one excellent tackle in the first half but failed to produce anything concrete. Was bullied again with a blessing from Anthony Taylor (just like against Sunderland this year).
Tomas Rosicky | 6.5: Arguably the best Arsenal player on the pitch today after some excellent tackling and one-two’s with Giroud. Kept fighting until the very end. Too bad his finishing wasn’t the best as he had two huge chances at 1:1 and 1:2.
Theo Walcott | 5.0: Mostly invisible after he picked a knock at the very start of the game. Sent another wasteful free-kick wide.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain | 6.5: Looked lively and assisted to Giroud with a clever outside-of-the-boot move. Hopefully his injury isn’t as serious as some are suggesting.
Olivier Giroud | 6.5: He scored an early goal and made a few good link-ups with Rosicky but he can do a lot better.
Carl Jenkinson | 5.0: Wasn’t too impressive.
Santi Cazorla | 5.0: Replaced Oxlade-Chamberlain due to injury. Lost the ball before the two goals that sealed Aston Villa victory.
Lukas Podolski | N/A: Entered the pitch due to tactical reasons.
