Arsenal Vs Crystal Palace
Barclays Premier League
Kick off: February 02, 2014 4.00 PM BST
An Arsenal display which is becoming more and more commonplace these days. A slow first half, building from the back. Followed by a more adventurous second half in which we punished Palace. 2-0 Arsenal. Here are the player ratings:
Wojciech Szczesny | 7.75: Did what little was required of him in the first half, and produced a fantastic save at 1-0 to preserve the clean sheet.
Bacary Sagna | 7.25: Was caught out a couple of times, and didn’t threaten too much going forward. Made a couple of important challenges though, and provided width on the right that we don’t get with Santi playing there.
Per Mertesacker | 8.25: (MotM) Made a number of tricky interceptions, and made them look effortless. His positioning was perfect today, and aside from a late yellow card, his overall defensive performance was practically flawless.
Laurent Koscielny | 7.5: Aside from allowing Chamakh a little too much space at times, his performance was solid. Another clean sheet for the Mertscielny partnership.

Nacho Monreal | 7.25: Offered a lot going forward, but needs to work on his final ball. Provided much needed width, and was a good passing outlet. Didn’t have much to do defensively.
Mikel Arteta | 7.75: The tempo of this game and the way Palace played suited him perfectly. He sprayed the ball all over the pitch, was involved in attacking plays, and got the balance between attack and defence exactly right.
Alex Oxlade Chamberlain | 8.0: Had a fairly quiet first half, attempting to spread the ball around rather than making attacking runs. Came to life in the second half with two well taken goals, making runs into space that Palace couldn’t deal with.
Mesut Özil| 6.75: Another worryingly quiet performance from the German. He was involved in a lot of slick passing moves in the first half, including a fantastic ball over the top for Monreal. Seemed to come too deep for the ball though and didn’t threaten enough in the final third.
Lukas Podolski | 7.0: His decision making was a little off today, shooting when he should have passed and vice versa. His effort in the second half was fantastic, both offensively and defensively, but he was rightfully substituted for Rosicky late on.
Santi Cazorla | 7.5: Was involved in a lot of Arsenal’s attacking play, including an assist for the first goal. Like Özil seemed to be coming too deep at times, but started to threaten more in the second half.
Olivier Giroud | 7.0: Things weren’t really going his way today, his control wasn’t quite there, and his feet didn’t seem to be doing what he wanted them to. Nonetheless he held the ball up when he needed to ad supplied the assist for Chamberlain’s second goal with a lovely link up between the two. He also put in a defensive shift during corners and set pieces.
Tomas Rosicky | 7.0: As ever our experienced Czech added a bit of zip to our game, ensuring that our tempo didn’t drop, and Palace weren’t allowed back into the game.
Keiran Gibbs | N/A: Added stability when he came on briefly, a great substitute to have available.
Nicklas Bendtner | N/A: Like Gibbs, he was barely on the pitch. But while he was he held up the ball well and looked up for the game.
