The transfer window has closed and with Petr Cech the only arrival this summer, the optimism surrounding our campaign has certainly dwindled.
Given that, after a serene pre-season, we have failed to start the season in convincing fashion it is difficult to see us keeping pace with Manchester City who have come out of the blocks flying.
Arsenal transfer news
Below, we analyse the four areas of our squad and determine whether we have enough to challenge for the Premier League.
- Arsenal told ‘no less than £50m’ for top defensive transfer target
- Arsenal keen to sign 16th best ranked Premier League stopper
- Arsenal keeping tabs on €40m Italy star after ‘outstanding’ season
Surprisingly, Wenger has gone into the season with only two senior goalkeepers with Wojciech Szczesny and Emi Martinez sent out on loan to Roma and Wolves respectively.
However, looking around Europe, it seems as though this is the common practice among top clubs and given that we have two established internationals in this department in Petr Cech and David Ospina, we should be fine.
In the event of a severe injury crisis, hopefully, the club has inserted a recall clause in the contracts of the goalkeepers we’ve sent out on loan.
