Arsenal v Newcastle United
Barclays Premier League
Kick off: April 28, 2014 8.00 PM BST
A patient build up from Arsenal, but after breaking the deadlock we never looked like losing. Not exactly the typically beautiful goals that people associate with Arsenal, but a 3 nil victory and 3 points. Here are the player ratings:
Wojciech Szczesny | 7.5: Very little to do for the Pole, but didn’t put a foot wrong. Showed a nice bit of confidence and skill to bamboozle Gouffran as he charged at the shot stopper.

Bacary Sagna | 8.0: Really dangerous looking going forward, several dangerous crosses put in and a fantastic outlet. Solid defensively, will be a shame to see him go this summer as it seems he will.
Per Mertesacker | 8.0: Dominant in the air, and made several vital interceptions. Business as usual for the BFG.
Laurent Koscielny | 8.75: (MotM) Fantastic awareness and reading of the game from the agile centre back, and took his goal well.
Nacho Monreal | 7.75: Probably the Spaniard’s best performance in an Arsenal shirt, coincidentally one in which he didn’t have much defending to do. Was great going forward, making some decent off the ball runs.
Mikel Arteta | 7.5: A decent performance from Mikel, not having much to do on the defensive side, but staying alert and not leaving the back 4 unprotected.
Aaron Ramsey | 7.75: Great to have him back in the side, offers something different in midfield. A solid game overall, outshined by a couple of players today though.
Santi Cazorla | 8.0: A mixed bag from Santi, but mostly good thankfully. Some great passing and link up play, and some good set piece deliveries. His shooting was a little off, but he was energetic and up for the game.
Mesut Özil | 8.5: A goal and an assist for the record signing, another player that it’s fantastic to have back from injury. Can’t wait to see him next season.
Lukas Podolski | 7.0: Not a bad performance from Podolski, but he was largely anonymous. He may be the best finisher in the squad, but that’s all he offers in most games. A couple of decent passes and crosses in the first half, but no major contributions.
Olivier Giroud | 7.25: A goal in the second half, and an ‘assist’ in the first. Not his best performance, and certainly should have scored more than once.
Mathieu Flamini | 6.5: He was pushed pretty far up the pitch, and he was largely ineffective. He’s a defensive player by nature, and there was little to no defensive work to do when he was on the pitch.
Tomas Rosicky | 7.5: Added some real zip in the final minutes, not allowing Newcastle to relax.
Yaya Sanogo | N/A: A cameo performance from the French youngster.
