Arsenal vice-captain Per Mertesacker was involved in a car accident near London Colney this week, but thankfully escaped any serious damage after he lost control of his car, The Evening Standard reports.
Mertesacker has missed our last three fixtures through illness and after heading to the training ground, the German international crashed into a turnoff on the M1, according to the report.
Though he wasn’t seriously hurt, the report claims that Mertesacker was visibly shaken while speaking to the police and was driven home from the training ground following the incident.

Gabriel has done an admirable job during Mertesacker’s absence and many fans have called for him to be promoted to the first XI alongside Laurent Koscielny.
Koscielny and Gabriel share similar qualities and given that the former arrived at the age of 24, Arsene Wenger may have identified the Frenchman’s long-term replacement.
