Arsenal and Chelsea are reportedly ready to make their move for Everton’s highly-rated defender John Stones, according to reports in Daily Mail.
The 19 year old made his breakthrough into the Everton side this season and has excelled under manager Roberto Martinez, making an impressive 22 appearances in all competitions this campaign.
The report states that Chelsea have joined the race for Stones but will face a difficult task prising him away. The Gunners also have an interest in the youngster and have reportedly been watching the England U-21 defender closely.
Arsenal are expected to bring in at least one defender this summer with the futures of Bacary Sagna and Thomas Vermaelen in doubt and Arsene Wenger has been impressed by Stones composure and ability to bring the ball out from the back.
Everton signed Stones from Barnsley for a fee in the region of £3 million and despite having failed to initially hit the ground running, he has been in the side for the last few weeks replacing the injured Phil Jagielka. He is slowly becoming one of the most promising defenders in the Premier League and was nothing short of brilliant against Arsenal just over a week ago.

He is a strong, powerful and a tough tackling defender, who is comfortable at both right back and centre half. He has raw attributes of pace and power which are very important for any centre-back. His anticipation, positioning and leadership skills already surpass many of his Premier League peers.
He’s armed with close control, a sharp touch and a wide range of passing that accelerates his side’s tempo and overall transitions. The youngster has elegance and poise for someone of his age.
However, the duo are likely to face a difficult task in trying to lure Stones to London as Everton are in no mood to let the talented youngster leave. He is committed to the club as they push for Champions League football and if the Merseyside club edge Arsenal out in the race for fourth, then the Gunners most certainly miss out on Stones as the defender will be more keen on Champions League football.
He will reportedly cost around £15 million after his fantastic performances so far this season and it remains to be seen whether Wenger will back his interest with a solid bid.
