New loan signing Kim Kallstrom, who will wear the number 29 shirt, has been included in Arsenal’s updated Champions League squad however there has been one surprise exclusion – Ryo Miyaichi has been removed.
The likes of Benik Afode, Chuba Akpom, Daniel Boateng have all been ommited as the trio have all been sent out on loan for the remainder of the season. Emmanuel Frimpong has also been removed after the midfielder secured a move to Barnsley however surprisingly Ryo Miyaichi has also been categorized under the ‘players who were removed’ list.
UEFA have released the latest ins and outs, (you can see the full list here) and the main surprise is the exclusion of Arsenal’s Japanese winger Ryo who had been hotly tipped for another loan move away from Emirates in January to secure some regular playing time and first team experience.
The 21-year-old has struggled for game time this season despite a relatively decent pre-season tour of Asia. He is incredibly injury-prone and that is thought to have hampered his development, then again he is tiny and is extremely quick – meaning he takes a battering from defenders similarly to a younger Theo Walcott.
While nothing has been confirmed from Arsenal’s end, perhaps this is a sign of things to come for the pacy winger. He’s certainly not made the grade with the Gunners despite Wenger’s continual faith in him due to his work ethic and athleticism, so maybe the time has come for him to move on? With the Championship and lower league’s loan window set to open this weekend (a.k.a ‘Emergency Loan Window’), perhaps Wenger has decided to loan him out to a Championship club for the remainder of the season.
