With the deal for Granit Xhaka all tied up, Arsene Wenger is able to turn his attention to the next transfer. His top target is apparently Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly, who could be available for £20m, according to the Daily Star.
The Serie A star is being chased by a number of top clubs, with Chelsea and Manchester United also in the hunt for his signature (via the Daily Star). The 24-year-old is one of the brightest young defenders in the game at the moment, and after a great season with Napoli he’s understandably a wanted man.
While a centre-back arguably isn’t a top priority – with Laurent Koscielny, Per Mertesacker, Gabriel Paulista, and Calum Chambers all at the club – we could certainly improve our options. Koscielny aside they all have their weaknesses, and Koulibaly would arguably be a massive improvement three out of the four.
He’s strong, quick, and while young he has plenty of experience. He wouldn’t be cheap by any stretch, but paired with Koscielny he could make us incredibly solid at the back.
You’d expect that with Champions League football next season we’d have a real edge over Chelsea and Manchester United, but money talks these days, and if we want to sign the Senegalese star we need to move quickly.

It seems unlikely that Arsene Wenger would move for a centre-back with so many options already at the club, but it’s certainly possible that one of our centre-backs could be on their way out – either permanently on loan. The club really needs a bit of a revamp this summer, in defence, midfield, and attack.
