Former Arsenal attacking midfielder turned Sky Sports football pundit Paul Merson has predicted that Arsenal will beat Manchester City on Monday night when the two teams meet at the Emirates, before going on to win the Premier League title according to Sky Sports.
Currently Arsenal sit second in the Barclays Premier League, five points behind Claudio Ranieri’s surprise table topping Leicester City (albeit having played a game more), with Manuel Pellegrini’s City a point behind the Gunners in third.
Former Gunner Merson also believes the draw against Barcelona in the Champions League is a blessing in disguise for their charge on the league title, a possible exit means Arsene Wenger’s men would in theory have fewer fixtures later in the season.
“I’m going for Arsenal to [beat Manchester City], and go on to win the title comfortably,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“You have to think Arsenal are probably going to go out of the Champions League to Barcelona, and Man City should go through against Dynamo Kiev.
“City also have another two games in the Capital One Cup, where they usually play their best side, so there’s four extra matches. If Arsenal win this, I think they kick on.

“What has changed for Arsenal this season? The other teams being unpredictable has helped, nobody has had major momentum throughout the season, but Arsenal have been mildly consistent.”
While we like Merson’s idea that we will win the league, just dismissing us against Barcelona seems a bit harsh, especially given how Arsenal were supposed to brush aside tiny Monaco in last season’s competition. You can take nothing for granted in this competition
On their day, Arsenal is capable of beating any team out there as they showed in the 2-0 over Bayern Munich. Should Wenger make a couple of good signings next month there is no reason to believe that Arsenal cannot win the Champions League and the Premier League title as well.
