Arsene Wenger has been at Arsenal coming up on 20 years, but he won’t be at the club forever. Current Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola has been touted as a potential successor, and the Spaniard would apparently like his next job to be in London, according to the Daily Mail.
This is a massive boost for us, as if true it means the former Barcelona boss can only really end up with us or Chelsea – it’s not like he’s exactly going to go to Tottenham is he?
The report claims Bayern are currently trying to extend his deal, but it’s unclear whether an agreement is close. His current deal expires at the end of the season, and his future is up in the air.
The end of the season is arguably a little too soon for Wenger, who doesn’t seem like hanging up his tie just yet. The Frenchman’s contract expires in 2017 though, so if available then it seems possible that Guardiola could come to the Emirates ahead of the 2017/18 campaign.
There are very few managers who look capable of taking the mantle once Wenger steps down, but Guardiola is certainly one of them. His style would unquestionably fit in well at Arsenal, so hopefully we don’t miss out on him.
