Our clash with Manchester United this weekend could prove huge in deciding the final standings of the top four, and we have received a massive boost with the news that Wayne Rooney will miss the match due to injury.
The United captain suffered a thigh injury during his side’s win over Crystal Palace, and it was initially unclear how long he would be out for.
Louis van Gaal has now revealed that he will – along with Luke Shaw – miss our trip to Old Trafford; even suggesting that he could potentially not play again this season
“The situation is not positive for us, they cannot play, neither of them,” the Dutchman said (via the Daily Star).
“Yes it is a short term thing, we have only one match to play, so I think it will be difficult for them to play again this season.”

Rooney has been hugely important to the Red Devils this season, and his versatility has proved massive. Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao have struggled for form, and Rooney has enjoyed success as a striker.
The fact that they will be without him this weekend is excellent news, and will hopefully help us get our second Old Trafford victory of the season.
