Arsene Wenger has been handed a boost in his pursuit of Karim Benzema after Real Madrid president Florentino Perez travelled to Qatar to meet with Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi to discuss the likes of Edinson Cavani and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, El Confidencial reports.
The two PSG stars could be seen as possible replacements for Benzema, especially after reports in Spain claimed that we were monitoring his situation with the Frenchman’s Real Madrid future in doubt (via AS).
With the revolving door at the Bernabeu constantly in place, the departure of any player never seems to be beyond the realms of possibility.

Despite Benzema’s obvious qualities, he’s seen the likes of Mesut Ozil, Gonzalo Higuain and Angel di Maria showed the door in the past few years.

According to El Confidencial’s Kike Marin, Benzema is Wenger’s top transfer target this summer and if the boss can pull this deal off, the dream of lifting the Premier League once again will certainly become an even more realistic target.
With all respect to Olivier Giroud, he will never blossom into an elite striker, the type that a club looking to win the league needs. Benzema is also an all-round forward, capable of fitting into Wenger’s philosophy perfectly.
