Arsene Wenger claims he’s shocked that former Barcelona star Pedro made the switch to Chelsea, with the Frenchman claiming he was sure the Spaniard was on his way to Manchester United, according to the Express.
As the report suggests, Pedro was seemingly on the verge of a move to Old Trafford, with United’s club executive Ed Woodward even flying to Spain to get the deal done.
At the last minute he made the switch to Chelsea however, much to the surprise of everyone – including Arsene Wenger.
“It was a surprise to me because I thought he was landing at Manchester but he finally landed in London,” Wenger said.
“The story was out for such a long time that I thought he was going to go to Manchester, but then suddenly in 24 hours [he joined Chelsea].
“We’ve seen that before on the transfer market – I don’t know what happened exactly.”

The move has now been officially confirmed, with Jose Mourinho completing the £21.4m switch (via the Express).
Pedro has been superb for Barcelona over the years, and featured heavily during the successful Pep Guardiola era. He has struggled for first team football due to competition from Neymar and Luis Suarez though, and understandably looked for a move away.

The 28-year-old potentially could have been a good signing for us, although with Wenger’s penchant for deploying central midfielders on the wing he may not have even been in the manager’s thoughts.
