Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Emirates Cup star Jeff Reine-Adelaide will not be sent out on loan this summer after the 17-year-old put in a couple of impressive performances over the weekend (via Arsenal Player).
Reine-Adelaide was given a cameo role against Lyon on Saturday, but it was his performance against Wolfsburg that captured the imagination.
Signed from RC Lens in the summer, the teenager seemed assured in possession and was confident enough to power past his opponents on multiple occasions.
His close control and vision set up our winner, and Wenger insists that the midfield prodigy must remain with the first team this season.

Asked if he planned to keep Reine-Adelaide with the first team squad, Wenger replied: “Yeah definitely.
- Arsenal must outmanoeuvre Galatasaray to win race for £2m ‘bargain’ transfer
- Arsenal reportedly set to sign free agent after impressive trial
- Arsenal have ‘concrete interest’ in signing Bayern Munich II star
“He is 17 years old and he looks very promising, but he needs to work with us for a year in the first team.
“To be an adult, to play for the under-21s and to develop. There is fantastic potential there, but he will stay with us.”
It has been a while, despite our reputation as a club, since we’ve signed a player with such potential and watched them blossom into renowned superstars.
Without adding too much pressure on Reine-Adelaide, comparisons will definitely be drawn between himself and Paul Pogba such is his elegance and power when in possession of the ball.
One thing’s for certain, the young Frenchman is certainly at the right club in order for him to fulfil his potential.
