We currently have three top quality goalkeepers on our books – four if like Arsene Wenger you include Damien Martinez – with Petr Cech’s arrival pushing David Ospina and Wojciech Szczesny down the pecking order.
Something had to give this season, and it seems as though the Pole is the one who will have to make way.
“He could go on loan to Roma,” Wenger said, as quoted by Arsenal.com.
“We are pretty much done, it’s down to paperwork. As long as that’s not over the line, anything can happen.
“Szczesny is a top-class goalkeeper and we have three top goalkeepers. If one of the goalkeepers can play somewhere then it’s good.

“I believe he will have a future at Arsenal because I personally rate him highly. I put him in the first team at the age of 20 and he already has huge experience.
“I don’t want that experience he got when he was very young to be wasted and that is why I gave him the opportunity.
“I believe Roma is a big club and they play in the Champions League, play in a very different championship as well and that is a big experience for him and he is 25 years old.
“But the experience he already has at his age is fantastic.”
Ospina usurped Szczesny as our No.1 this season, with the Colombian taking the reigns following the 25-year-old’s shocking performance against Southampton on New Year’s Day.
It looked as though Ospina would be the one to leave the club – despite being there just a single season – with heavy links to him to Fenerbahce (via talkSPORT). The player himself confirmed that discussions were ongoing (as per talkSPORT), but it seems now as though he will be our No.2 next season.
Arsenal transfer news
Szczesny is still young in goalkeeping terms, and could certainly still have a future at the club. Hopefully he learns from his loan spell with Roma, and comes back a better player with a steadier head on his shoulders.
