Arsene Wenger has been taking some flak for his inactivity in the transfer window, with Petr Cech remaining our solitary signing this summer. The manager insists we could still see an arrival though, and claims he’s confident a “last-minute” solution is possible, as reported on Arsenal.com.
Despite our excellent form earlier this year and our superb pre-season, we are still a couple of players short of truly challenging for top honours. A striker is a must-buy, as Olivier Giroud is currently carrying the burden practically on his own.
A defensive midfielder is arguably equally important, as we have seen how vital Francis Coquelin has been to the side.
Hopefully Wenger is right about being able to pull off a last minute move, and we see at least one more new face through the door before the window slams shut.
“I am always confident that a last-minute situation or solution is available, because the transfer market is especially moving in the last four or five days,” he said.
“But at the moment I cannot promise you that.

“We have specific targets but sometimes you get an idea from somebody because you didn’t know that the player you like was available and if you get an opportunity you do it.
“We work very hard, you know I have a team around me who work day and night to find good solutions. I am 24 hours available per day, so I am involved in the decision of course, but at the moment we are not close to signing anyone.”
It’s great to hear that Wenger is at the very least on the lookout, and that he’s working hard to make acquisitions before September arrives. Hopefully it’s not all in vain, and we get that marquee signing so many are craving.
Arsenal transfer news
Wenger is the master of misdirection, and rarely says what he means when it comes to transfers and the media. We may have to wait until the dying moments of the transfer window to find out the truth, so hopefully we aren’t left disappointed.
