As the report suggests, Wenger is keeping his options open. We have been linked with Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin, but we are facing plenty of competition for the Frenchman’s signature.
Bender could also potentially prove a cheaper option, with the boss looking to prise him away from Leverkusen for £18m (via The Sun).
The German international is a top quality midfielder, and has been extremely reliable during his time in the Bundesliga. Wenger has looked at the possibility of bringing him to the Emirates in the past (via The Sun), and is clearly trying to do so again this summer.
Schneiderlin would arguably be a better option, with experience of English football often key to success in the Premier League. Wenger may be unwilling to get dragged into a bidding war however, and the 26-year-old German may be the way to avoid that.
