It’s tricky being an Arsenal fan with the close of the window looming large, as many fear we won’t see any new faces through the door – despite heavy links to Karim Benzema (via The Telegraph).
Arsene Wenger has given us a bit of hope though, by claiming he’s willing to gamble and spend big if the right player becomes available.
“There is always time to take a gamble and we are not against taking a gamble,” said Wenger.
“But what you want is to take a gamble in a market where the opportunity is there.”
If we were to take a punt on Benzema, then it would seemingly be a £48m gamble (via the Express). You may argue that signing a player of the Frenchman’s quality isn’t much of a gamble, but we’ve seen with the likes of Fernando Torres and Angel Di Maria that you can never tell whether a player will be a success or not.
Wenger doesn’t mention Benzema, and as usual refuses to be drawn into discussing individual players. Hopefully we see the manager pull out his cheque book before the window slams shut, as we certainly still need reinforcements if we are to challenge for the title.

Top class strikers are a sought after commodity at the moment, so we need to hope that the opportunity presents itself for us to strengthen before September arrives.
