Arsene Wenger claims Stan Kroenke is willing to provide as much money as is needed this summer, with the real issue being whether the right players are available, as reported by BBC Sport (via The Evening Standard).
The manager suggests competition for top players is incredibly stiff, with all the top clubs having money to spend and all of them competing for the same players. He claims luck plays a large part, but stresses that the resources are available to him.
“Stan Kroenke is completely behind myself and the board investing as much money as we want. It has to be in respect of a balanced budget, we have resources but the problem is finding players. Everybody has money in England and they’re all after good players,” he said.
“The good players aren’t legion, you have to be shrewd and be a little bit lucky.”
On the one hand it’s fantastic news that there’s plenty of money in the cash reserves, as we know that very few players will be out of our reach if we really set our minds to it. However, the fact that Wenger claims the money pit is bottomless and yet he has still refused to spend big repeatedly over the last few seasons, will no doubt frustrate fans.

While our failure to spend and bring in top talent has always been frustrating, the more sensible and level headed fans knew that the reason behind our financial impotence was the crippling debt we were struggling with. That is no longer a factor though, so if Wenger continues to shy away from big money transfers then fan unrest will only increase.
Arsenal transfer news
Many have always believed that the financial restrictions placed on the club were down to the board and Stan Kroenke rather than Wenger, and this summer will really show whether that is not the case or not.
