Arsene Wenger is apparently determined to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this summer, and is willing to offer a record breaking £63.2m to get the deal done, as reported by French outlet Le 10 Sport.
We’ve been continuously linked with the free-scoring forward for quite some time, but have been continuously shot down in our advances. The fact that the Gabon international seems to have his heart set on a move to Real Madrid (via ESPN) is a real blow in our pursuit, and obviously forces us to question any links to the player.
The 26-year-old is one of the most highly rated forwards in football at the moment, with his goalscoring record over the last couple of seasons nothing short of phenomenal.
If we could get Aubameyang this summer it would be an amazing signing, and he would unquestionably take us to the next level. He’s one of the most sought after strikers for a reason, and he could be the missing piece of the puzzle.
Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck have enjoyed decent spells at times, but neither are even close to the world class striker we need. We’ve been lacking a top quality forward for quite some time, and while our current options don’t deserve the criticism they get, we won’t ever make that step up until we improve on them.

All that said, while Aubameyang may be the player we need, he seems unlikely to be the player we get. He’s given us no hints whatsoever that he’d be interested in a move to north London, and with the number of teams likely to be chasing his signature he’ll probably have his pick of teams this summer.
