Arsenal can have the red card overturned that was wrongfully awarded to Kieran Gibbs so he avoids the one match automatic suspension.
The Gunners left back was sent off 17 minutes into the horrific 6-0 loss to title rivals Chelsea despite not actually doing anything. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was the culprit, handballing deliberately inside the penalty area, but bizarrely referee Andre Marriner awarded Gibbs the red card by accident.
The news will come as a relief to the Arsenal faithful with the north Londoners already struggling for defenders, and it is also expected that Oxlade-Chamberlain will go unpunished. However knowing the FA, they could be right pricks and surprise us all.
The FA stated on its official Twitter account that further action can be taken to rectify the sending off:
Clubs can appeal mistaken identity to The @FA, although The @FA can pro-actively review also.
Following a red card clubs can also review possibility of a wrongful dismissal claim to The @FA, unless dismissal is for 2 yellow cards.
