Arsenal are, according to the player’s agent, closely monitoring Monaco defender Aymen Abdennour who starred in our Champions League tie against the Ligue 1 side, Goal’s French correspondent Robin Bairner reports.

Abdennour produced a no-nonsense display in both legs and seems like the type of defender – similar to Gabriel – who just loves defending.
However, whenever an agent reveals interest from a club spontaneously, it’s most likely an attempt to drum up interest in his client ahead of the summer transfer window.
Arsenal transfer news
Wenger does seem intent on adding a defender to his squad (via The Telegraph), which is quite surprising given the vast amount of options we now have in that department. Laurent Koscielny, Calum Chambers, Per Mertesacker and Gabriel are all fighting for two positions at the heart of the defence.
- Arsenal must outmanoeuvre Galatasaray to win race for £2m ‘bargain’ transfer
- Arsenal reportedly set to sign free agent after impressive trial
- Arsenal have ‘concrete interest’ in signing Bayern Munich II star
Therefore, any defensive additons would possibly see someone have to vacate the position; permanently or due to a loan spell. That immediately puts the spotlight on Chambers and Mertesacker who are respectively in different periods of their careers. The latter has looked leggy this season and Wenger may want to get a transfer fee for him while it’s still feasible.
For Chambers, he has shown great promise but, equally, a lack of experience in defence and a season-loan spell to a Premier League club could project his career as a future centre back.
What is for sure though, we should see more outgoings than incomings this summer – a sign of how close we are.
