Arsenal are on the verge of completing their first signing of the January transfer window, if this report from Sky Sports is to be believed, with a fee reported to be in the region of £7m agreed with FC Basel for Mohamed Elneny.
The Egyptian international, who has over 100 caps for the Swiss outfit, appears to be on the brink of joining the Gunners subject to a medical and most importantly a work permit (via Sky Sports) to play in the UK.
Elneny, a defensive midfielder by trade, will be the Gunners first senior outfield signing since centre back Gabriel 11 months ago and provide cover and competition for the injured Francis Coquelin.
The 23-year-old is expected to complete the transfer over the coming week and could be the start of a busy winter window for Arsene Wenger who could be seeking a replacement for Mathieu Debuchy, should the Frenchman depart to secure more game time ahead of his countries Euro 2016 campaign.
