The 23 year old German is seen as one of the Bundesliga’s best young full-backs and has been attracting attention from Arsene Wenger for a while.
He has been quoted as saying that we are strongly on the players trail for the summer having sent scouts to watch him in action this season, while he also played down interest from the likes of Inter Milan, Roma and AC Milan.
According to the Metro, he said:
In England we know Arsenal are very strongly on his trail for the summer.
They have had scouts watching him in the Bundesliga. There is was interest in the past from Inter, Roma and Milan, but no recent contact.
Bacary Sagna is the Gunners first choice right-back in the squad, but the France international’s contract at the Emirates expires at the end of the season. His contract talks are still in deadlock and the experienced defender is looking increasingly likely to leave when his deal expires.
Jung is a solid defender who has the knowledge and understanding to read the game very well. His solid defensive ability is assisted by his consistent marking and equally important is his positioning. He is very mature for being only 22 years old and disciplined in his position.

He is a more conventional, defensive-minded full-back, but does venture forward in an attempt to create chances, although the fundamental part of his game is his defensive ability. His marking, confident positioning, reading of the game and strength provide the management with the opportunity to utilise him as a central defender if the need may arise.
It would be great if Sagna stays at the club as he’s been one of our best servants over the past six years and there aren’t many more accomplished right backs around than him. However, if he decides to leave then Jung could be an interesting option.
