Arsenal have reportedly signed defender Elias Chatzitheodoridis from Greek side Mas Kallitheakos, according to reports in the Metro.
The 17 year old was training part-time at Arsenal’s academy in Greece when it became apparent that his talent was more deserving of a club of the Gunners stature. He was quickly sent to north London for a short trial and after impressing against various big-name youth teams including Real Madrid, it seems the North London club have made their move.
The report states that he has signed a two-year contract with the club and will begin his career playing for Arsenal’s youth ranks next season. He will begin life at the Emirates with the Gunners under-18 side, continuing his development in the famed academy that produced many great talents.
The youngster, who operates as a left-back, is viewed as a long-term prospect by Arsenal academy staff and is the first player from the club’s Greek soccer school system to earn permanent terms with a Premier League side. Wenger has been known to trust and invest in youth throughout his career, so it’s no surprise that his first signing is an up and coming player.
He may not be the most desirable signing for supporters, however his arrival is unlikely to be the last of Arsenal’s summer business as Wenger is expected to be busy in the transfer market with a striker and a defender being top of the list.
