Arsenal have officially confirmed what many of us were already expecting to hear, with Abou Diaby officially leaving the club.
The news was announced on Arsenal’s official Twitter account, with the Frenchman departing along with Jack Jebb, Austin Lipman, Brandon Ormonde-Ottewill, and Josh Vickers.
Arsenal transfer news
The 29-year-old looked capable of great things when we signed him back in 2006, and he had the potential to be a fantastic player. His career was destroyed by injury however, and Arsene Wenger finally looks to have given up hope that he will recover.

It’s a shame to see Diaby leave, as many were hopeful he would get over his chronic injury issues. He has been on our wage bill for far too long without being fit enough to play however, and consistently suffered set-backs every time he looked on the verge of returning to full fitness.

We are beginning to see a more ruthless side to Wenger, who has been flexing our financial muscles in the transfer market recently. We can’t afford passengers anymore, and that is unfortunately what Abou Diaby has become.
It’s hard to see him recovering and continuing his career elsewhere, but we wish him the best all the same.
