Our first Emirates Cup clash is against Lyon this Saturday afternoon, and the official teams have been announced on Arsenal’s official Twitter account.
Arsene Wenger has named a strong side, but there are certainly a few surprises thrown in.
The first surprise is in goal, with Emiliano Martinez starting ahead of Petr Cech. With Wojciech Szczesny looking likely to make a season long loan move to Roma (via The Guardian), it’s understandable that he hasn’t been named. Wenger is clearly resting Cech ahead of tomorrow’s clash with VfL Wolfsburg, with Martinez getting his chance to shine.
It’s a strong back line, although Hector Bellerin and Nacho Monreal’s performances last season suggest the Spanish pair would form our strongest back four.
The midfield is arguably our first choice trio, with Francis Coquelin deployed alongside Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Özil playing the No.10. Santi Cazorla could easily replace the Welshman, but we wouldn’t necessarily look any stronger or weaker for it.
We are perhaps slightly more lightweight up front, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and the young Alex Iwobi playing either side of Olivier Giroud. Both men can cause problems with their pace and trickery however, and the Frenchman will look to take advantage of that.

Lyon have named a strong lineup as well, with Arsenal target Alexandre Lacazette (via the Daily Mail) leading the line. Could his performances this weekend convince Wenger to make a move?

We are more than capable of getting the win, and should do so on our home ground.
