In the wake of Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure, Manchester United have struggled to say the least. They comically fell to their fifth defeat this season to Newcastle at Old Trafford on Saturday, piling the pressure on manager David Moyes.
There’s been a rumour floating around suggesting Robin van Persie has handed a transfer request into the reigning champions. According to the Mirror the Dutchman is reportedly unsettled with life in Manchester, with Moyes’ notorious fitness regime potentially wreaking havoc on Van Persie’s personal fitness schedule that he swore by while overcoming his persistent injury troubles with Arsenal and maintained under Sir Alex. He could potentially be seeking a January exit.. Apparently.
Although the rumour sounds utterly ludicrous, it does beg the question – would Arsenal take him back?
The Gunners are in a fine position at present leading the Premier League by four points with a game in hand. But they do require a striker this January and Van Persie oozes goals.
His recent celebration against Arsenal, against the club that developed him, stood by him while he suffered consistently with injuries, did little to endear him to the Arsenal faithful. Another look at Aaron Ramsey’s refusal to celebrate against his former side Cardiff proves the type of gentleman we want in our ranks.
Although Van Persie could sure up the title for the Gunners, he wouldn’t be welcome back in north London in my eyes. He’s burnt his bridges and unfortunately will be categorized by Gooners among the likes of the Nasri’s and Adebayor’s who have disrespected the club that put them on the map since their departures.
