Arsenal defender Nacho Monreal gave an honest interview after our kit launch at the Emirates Stadium and believes that we need a 25-goal-a-season striker if we’re to challenge for the Premier League next season, the Spaniard told Arseblog.
Monreal acknowledged the attacking achievements of Olivier Giroud and Alexis Sanchez but stressed that a team competing to win the title must possess a forward who finds the net regularly in the Premier League.
Alexis ended the season with 25 goals in all competition with Giroud just behind on 19, but the two were less prolific in the Premier League, scoring 16 and 14 goals respectively.
Arsenal transfer news
“I think we need two things,” Monreal was quoted as saying when asked what we need to challenge for the Premier League next season.
“I think if the club signed one or two top players. We had a lot of injuries, but also we need a player who scores 25 goals per season.

“We’re lucky because Alexis scored 24 goals and Giroud scored, I dunno…19, something like that. We need more goals to win the Premier League.”
Monreal was arguably our most improved player last season after putting in a number of consistent displays in the left-back position, ousting the previously comfortable Kieran Gibbs.
The former Malaga man has formed a great understanding with Laurent Koscielny on the left side of our defence and is now a major part of our defensive unit.
It’s quite natural that, as a defender, Monreal wants us to add to our forward line due to the simple equation in football. If we add more goals to our armory then the pressure on our defence to keep clean sheets will be slightly relieved.
The majority of the fanbase invariably agree with Monreal and adding a top class forward should be a priority for us this summer.
