According to The Mirror, Arsenal are eyeing a move for Liverpool centre back Daniel Agger to replace captain Thomas Vermaelen this summer.
The 29-year-old is of a similar mould to Vermaelen, an established international known for his bravery and wicked left foot but prone to errors. He has been a mainstay in the Liverpool team since his arrival in 2006, and was even promoted to vice-captain last summer but struggled to be a first team regular with injuries consistently plaguing his season.
The Denmark international is attracting attention from former club Brondby, while Barcelona have shown some interest over the past year to bring him to Spain. Brendan Rodgers has held firm so far but with the arrival of Southampton’s centre back Dejan Lovren, Agger may be sold to offset some of the Croatian’s £20m acquisition.
He is valued at around £12million, a sum similar to what Arsenal are likely to receive for Vermaelen who could be heading to Catalonia after their recent bid.

Agger played 20 games last season for Liverpool, scoring twice and claiming one assist. He had a passing accuracy of 89% in the Premier League, winning 60% of his aerial duels which is not that decent and is recorded as having 3 defensive errors..Eek.
Should we buy?
Agger has plenty of Premier League experience but he seems like a bit of a downgrade on Vermaelen due to his recent unreliability. Personally I’d prefer to keep our captain and lose him for free next summer to Barcelona, but Agger isn’t a bad option to have as a third choice centre half if he can prove his fitness and is happy to play second fiddle to Mertesacker and Koscielny.
He would be a similar signing to Debuchy – a stop gap for a couple of seasons until some of our youngsters are ready to step up.£12million seems a little high, I would prefer a Mat Hummels, but that seems a little out of our reach. Better than a Squillaci, but certainly nothing to jump around about
