Arsenal are favourites to land our priority in this summer window, the £25m rated Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin, according to The Telegraph.
We made the Frenchman our top target during the season, and the report suggests we’re front-runners to conclude the deal. Jeremy Wilson, the reporter who broke the news, has added that Schneiderlin wants the move to take place, but doubt remains as to what Arsene Wenger will do following the emergence of Francis Coquelin.
Clear sense on Schneiderlin is player/Saints prefer Arsenal to Spurs but no-one quite sure what Wenger will do after Coquelin’s emergence

Coquelin has enjoyed a fantastic few months this campaign, but he has started to tail-off during the past few weeks and an addition in the holding midfield area has been mooted.
The boss this week hinted that we could expect a player to arrive in that position to challenge Coquelin, but was adamant that our academy graduate still had a future at the club.

“Even if somebody else comes in, he will stay here,” Wenger was quoted as saying (via The Guardian).
Schneiderlin would give us the possibilities to deploy a number of combinations in that double-pivot area due to his flexibility. The France international can anchor a midfield, while also possessing the ability to sit alongside a deeper midfielder and perform the box-to-box role.
Much talk has surrounded our ‘spine’ – with even Thierry Henry claiming the team needs a new backbone (via Goal) – and as vague as those suggestions seem, Schneiderlin would improve our team considerably and give us steel in central midfield.
