Arsenal have finally found a great centre-back partnership in Laurent Koscielny and Shkodran Mustafi, says Jamie Redknapp, after Saturday’s 3-0 win over Chelsea at the Emirates.
The duo impressed against Antonio Conte’s side, ensuring in-form Diego Costa could not maintain his impressive early season goalscoring form, and picking up a deserved clean sheet.
Saturday’s clash was the first clean sheet Mustafi has helped Arsenal earn since his summer move but Redknapp is expecting more after praised the duo for their display.
“Arsenal’s centre backs have been too easily bullied in recent years by Didier Drogba and Diego Costa. On Saturday afternoon, Shkodran Mustafi wasn’t having any of it,” he wrote in his column in the Daily Mail.
“He showed so much quality alongside Laurent Koscielny and for the first time in a long time it looks like Arsenal have found a great centre-back partnership.
“The pair are both quick and good in the air. They are strong in both boxes and will threaten from set pieces, too.”

Redknapp also feels Saturday’s victory will give Mustafi a real shot in the arm with the Gunners set to face Burnley, Swansea, Middlesbrough and Sunderland in the Premier League in October.
“Mustafi hasn’t found it easy adapting to the Premier League since his move from Valencia – Saturday was his first clean sheet in an Arsenal shirt -but after this display his confidence should soar,” he added.
While it is still only early days the relationship between the pair is certainly showing promising signs and Arsenal will be hoping it can blossom and rival legendary defensive partnerships such as Tony Adams and Martin Keown and Sol Campbell and Kolo Toure.
