Former captain and Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira has stated that the Gunners lack the necessary physicality that is needed to win the Premier League title, saying that other top teams simply have more brawn then our team from the Emirates.
This is also a statement that comes a little time after another former Arsenal player, Gael Clichy, remarked on how much harder training sessions were at City compared to Arsenal.
On the matter Vieira stated: “Since I left Arsenal there are new players, a new generation and maybe a new philosophy because now they play better football than we used to do.
“The passing, the movement is better and they are faster, but our team was more physical and responded better to the English game. We had everything, and maybe now Arsenal lack the physical aspect of the game.
“They lost the physical aspect but have gained in the technical aspect. Maybe it’s the balance you need to find to win trophies.
“If you look at Manchester United, Chelsea and City, the physical aspect of the game is there.

“The big problem in the last few years has been the physical difference between Arsenal and other clubs.”
I think there is no doubt that Vieira raises a valid point. I, personally, think we do play the best football in the Premier League and I would dislike seeing that leave the team although if I was asked on whether it suited the English game in comparison to another league like La Liga I would have to say no. Perhaps with players such as Wilshere and the return of Ramsey and Vermaelen, that physical element will re-emerge in our team once again! What do you think about Vieira’s comments? Do you believe they are true and need addressing? Feel free to leave a comment below.
