Arsenal have been handed a significant boost in their attempt to sign Wilfried Bony, after his agent revealed that the striker could consider leaving Swansea City for a top club in the Premier League.
The 25 year old has just enjoyed an excellent debut season in England after scoring 25 goals in 48 appearances in all competitions for the Welsh outfit following his move from Vitesse Arnham last summer. Arsenal and Liverpool have been linked with a move for the striker in recent weeks, while Newcastle United have also been tipped to make a move.
However, Bony’s agent Dabibor Lacina, has now confirmed that his client has no interest in joining a club like Newcastle as he wants to join a top six Premier League side. If he doesn’t get a move to a top English side, he’ll look to move abroad. He said:
I spoke to Newcastle about Bony last summer. Newcastle should have bought Bony a year ago but they didn’t believe in him.
They could have signed him for £10 million, but they said they weren’t sure if he was good enough, that he was only playing in Holland [with Vitesse]. Now he is worth £20m.
The next step for Bony is a top-six team in England or a top team in Germany, Spain or France, or he will stay with Swansea.
We have a certain strategy. Bony is in a totally different place to Newcastle and wants to move to a club with ambition. We have had no contact with Newcastle.
He is strong and effective in the air, has quick feet and is calm in front of goal. With the amount of chances Arsenal create in every game, even the tight ones, he could thrive with their creativity. He can be a nuisance with fast paced runs behind defenders, he can dominate in the box from crosses and most importantly, score as demonstrated against Japan in last nights World Cup 2-1 for Ivory Coast.

He is a different player compared to Giroud and could provide an interesting alternative to the Frenchman. The likes of Ozil, Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey are always looking to play the killer ball but with Giroud mainly having his back towards the goal, there is not enough penetrating movement up front. Bony is someone that likes to latch onto balls played behind the defence, and is lethal in the box.
It would be great if we could sign him along with another world class striker, but it could take a chunk of our transfer kitty to secure him. He’s not quite the finished article yet and there are doubts over whether he can continue his fine form into a second season in England.
