We’ve reportedly been chasing Granit Xhaka for quite some time now, and we’ve apparently got an excellent chance of signing him this summer. German publication Bild claims we’ve got an 80% chance of signing him, with the Swiss midfielder likely to leave Borussia Monchengladbach at the end of the season.
This is far from the first time we’ve been linked with Xhaka, and recent reports suggested we’d made an initial £20m bid for the 23-year-old (via the Express). The Bundesliga side are holding out for a much higher fee though, and Bild believe if it’s matched we’ve got a great chance of landing his signature.
The report claims that £30m would seal the deal, but we’re facing competition from Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool. The German manager is apparently keen to bring Xhaka to the Premier League as well, so if Arsene Wenger really wants to land the talented midfielder he’ll have to move first.
We all know Wenger isn’t a fan of bidding wars, so too much competition could turn him off. Arsenal is likely to prove a far more enticing prospect than Liverpool for a number of reasons though, so if we are up against them for Xhaka’s signature then you’d like to think we have the edge.
Arsenal transfer news
It’s unclear how much science there is behind Bild’s chart, so who knows whether the 80% they’ve come up with is even remotely accurate. It would be a solid signing though, and it will be interesting to see whether we’re able to get it done – if we’re interested at all.
