Per Mertesacker has demanded Arsenal to emulate the consistency and focus of the Manchester clubs in order for Arsène Wenger’s side to become contenders for the Premier League title.
The Germany centre-half believes the ingredients are in place for Arsenal to end their eight-year trophy drought, chiefly the talent to rise to any occasion. He notes that the club will not suffer a damaging player departure as they have done for the past two summers and, like many of his team-mates, he anticipates the addition of one or two quality signings.
Mertesacker also said Arsenal’s strong finish to last season which saw them take 26 points from their last 30 proves they have enough quality to challenge for the Premier league title.
According to Mirror ,he said :
We must be well prepared both mentally and physically to do it straight from the off. It’s very hard to be consistent. That’s the reason for Manchester City and Manchester United being successful.
We haven’t sold any players so we are coming from a good base, we’re at a good level. Maybe someone will come in and strengthen our squad so it’s a better position than last summer when we lost two important players.

Consistency is the most important thing. If we can do that then we should be challenging for trophies.
We have a big season ahead, especially in August. The Champions League knock-out stage is massive for us.
It’s a big year for us. We’ve got the World Cup at the end but the focus has to be on Arsenal because we want to win things.
Mertesacker played the most games among all of our centre-backs last season, starting 33 Premier League games.Even though Koscielny was arguably Arsenal’s best defender in the 2012/13 season he had a part in that too because his partnership with koscienly helped him to prosper during the latter part of the season.
After a shaky first season in the Premier League, Mertesacker improved his positioning allowing him to break down opposition attacks and have the ability to close down opponents in the box. The communication between himself and his partner, whether it was Vermaelen or Koscielny, was greatly improved.
Although Per doesn’t have the pace to keep up with the opposing strikers but his perfect positioning makes up for his lack of speed. Also, the pace of his centre-back partner, Koscielny or Vermaelen will make up because both are very quick and pacey.
Mertesacker has won over the club faithfuls by the virtue of his consistent performance, hard-work, eagerness to get better and more importantly by giving his 100% every time he has worn the Arsenal colours. If one season is all it took for Mertesacker to settle in and turn good, imagine how good he’ll be as time goes on.
