Arsene Wenger is apparently a huge fan of Leicester City’s N’Golo Kante, and will do everything he can to lure him to the Emirates this summer. He’s not totally confident of landing the French midfielder though, and so is continuing to monitor Borussia Monchengladbach’s Granit Xhaka, according to the Express.
With a number of ageing players expected to leave the club this summer, we are likely to be badly in need of reinforcements in midfield. Kante has been phenomenal for the Foxes this season, and it’s easy to see why Wenger would be pursuing his compatriot.
We’ve been consistently linked with a move for Xhaka over the past few transfer windows, but the report suggests Wenger sees him as a secondary option rather than first choice.
It’s hard to tell whether Kante will be able to replicate the form he’s been showing this season, but he certainly seems like the better option at the moment. Not only is Kante a fantastic defensive midfielder, he’s also been driving Leicester forward when they need it. Xhaka has certainly been improving defensively over the years, but he wouldn’t offer us the same stability Kante would in midfield.
Arsenal transfer news
Both players are likely to have a huge number of suitors this summer, but there’s no reason at all that we can’t be the ones to lure them away. They will both no doubt come with pretty hefty transfer fees – with the Express suggesting £34m would land us Xhaka – but we should be more than capable of stumping up the cash.
