Arsenal are reportedly in advanced negotiations with AS Roma for the transfer of Wojciech Szczesny after the Serie A side reached an agreement with the 25-year-old’s representatives, Italian newspaper Il Tempo reports.
The future of Szczesny was always going to be called into question following the arrival of Petr Cech and it seems as though he’ll be the fall guy following the 33-year-old’s arrival.
It seemed as though David Ospina was headed for the exit door last month with reports indicating that a move to Fenerbahce was close (via talkSPORT).
During the second half of last season, Szczesny lost his place to Ospina after a dreadful display at Southampton which was subsequently followed by an act of unprofessionalism in the dressing room showers (via the Mirror).
Therefore, Cech’s arrival means that he’s currently our third choice goalkeeper which may have prompted him to seek a new club.

The report doesn’t suggest whether or not this a loan or a permanent move, with Szczesny’s recent contract extension suggesting that Arsene Wenger may see a future for him at our club.
As regrettable as it may seem, Szczesny’s departure may be the best scenario for all parties with our club moving into a direction where we need everyone pulling together.
