Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is set for an extended spell on the sidelines with another ankle injury after it was reported that his latest knock appears to be worse than initially feared, and he may miss England’s fixtures next month, the Mirror reports.
After Arsene Wenger was asked about Wilshere’s absence for our Community Shield clash against Chelsea on Sunday, the boss claimed that the 23-year-old’s “ankle problem” was “a matter of days” (via Arsenal Player).
However, the Mirror report that Wilshere underwent a scan on Monday and further damage was identified. This means that he’s set to miss two weeks of action, while also being regarded as a doubt for England’s European Championship Qualifiers next month.
This season was billed as a huge campaign for our academy product, with his fitness key to a potential return to the form he showed when he broke onto the scene a number of years ago.
