Arsene Wenger has confirmed some bad news following our draw with Tottenham, revealing that Nacho Monreal is not at 100% ahead of our FA Cup replay with Hull City, as reported by the Express.
The Spaniard was on the bench against Tottenham with initially no explanation. A rest was possible as he’s been playing a lot recently, but Wenger announced after the game that he’d suffered a knock.
“We play every three games at the moment, we have some knocks like Nacho Monreal who is not 100% so you try to freshen up,” Wenger said.
“He has a slight calf problem.”
It would be a real blow to be without Monreal for any length of time, as the left-back has been an incredibly solid and reliable performer for us this season. To be fair, left-back is arguably one of our best positions in terms of depth, with Kieran Gibbs one of the better back-ups available.
Chances are he was going to be rested for our FA Cup clash with Hull anyway, as the cup competitions are where Gibbs has been getting most of his chances this season, but if he’s out any longer it would be really disappointing.

Injuries have already savaged our campaign and the absences of key players have really derailed us, so we can’t afford to suffer any more to key players. We also really can’t crash out of the FA Cup against Hull this week, so we’ll need Gibbs to step up.
Arsenal transfer news
Hopefully Monreal isn’t out for too long, and it really is just a knock that he overcomes quickly. Our performance against Tottenham – while the result was not the best – showed signs of us being back to our best, and long may that continue.
